October Checklist

| Yearbooks

October is a crucial month for high school yearbook committees. This is the time to focus on key tasks that will ensure your yearbook is well-organized and on schedule. Important activities include capturing fall events, organizing senior portraits, and finalizing layouts. By concentrating on these tasks, you can keep your yearbook project on track and ensure it reflects the school year accurately!

  1. Finalize Your Content Plan: Be sure to consider what sections you will include, any special features like Senior Superlatives, the page allocation for each section and special feature, and content collection.
  2. Finalize Your Theme: Your theme should be reflective of the school year/trends/significant events, applied uniformly across all pages including fonts, colours, and design elements, and something that will resonate with the student body.
  3. Start Work on the Cover Design: The cover is the first thing that people see, so you want it to be eye-catching and thematic! As well as the actual design, you’ll want to determine the final size and any special features like embossing or foil. Be sure to chat with your Print Consultant or Project Specialist for help, and remember, the Friesens Cover Contest is just around the corner!
  4. Ensure Portrait Retakes are Scheduled: Not everyone is going to be happy with their first portrait, so coordinate with the photography company to set a date for retakes and let students/parents know about the retake date well in advance.
  5. Confirm Important Deadlines: Deadlines are crucial to keep the yearbook on track. Set your key deadlines like when all photos, articles, and other materials need to be submitted, and confirm the printing schedule with Friesens to ensure timely delivery.
  6. Celebrate National Yearbook Week! This is taking place September 30 to October 4, and it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness of the yearbook and encourage students to buy their copies, host activities and events related to the yearbook like photo booths and recognize the hard work of the yearbook team.

However you celebrate National Yearbook Week, Friesens wants to celebrate with you!  Post a picture of your team on social media taking part in a National Yearbook Week initiative and share it with us by tagging @friesensyearbook and #FriesensYearbookWeek.  Your team will have a chance to win a Party in a Basket, including a JBL Bluetooth speaker and a pizza lunch on us!
