Friesens is thrilled to announce a brand new addition to our printing capabilities at Friesens: the Digi B Edge Printing Machine from Durrer! This allows us to print on the edge of finished books, opening up a world of creative possibilities for our publishing partners.
What makes the Digi B edge Printing Machine special is that it uses an inkjet head to print in four process colours, allowing us to produce vibrant colour images, intricate line work, and almost any design you can imagine. Whether it’s printing around the rounded corners of a book, on top of gilded edges, or even on ragged foredges, this machine can handle it all with precision.
This has been an acquisition six years in the making…two of our employee-owners encountered this technology in Europe. At the time, there was limited interest from North American publishers, but the landscape has changed dramatically. Publishers are now eager to enhance their books with this unique feature.
Edge printing capacity in North America is still very limited, so we made the decision to purchase this machine and expedite its arrival. We expect this machine to arrive in November and plan to start producing by December.
